The Adrian Cohen Trio

The Adrian Cohen Trio was formed in fall of 2002 when local jazz pianist Adrian Cohen invited veteran drummer Pete Sweeney and acoustic bassist Michael DelPrete to join the group. The band has played several prestigious Capital Region events including the New York State Gubernatorial Inauguration 2003, Champagne in the Park 2002, Larkfest 2002, and The Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival 2002.

The trio mainly performs tunes from the standard jazz repertoire, but these tunes are adventurously re-arranged by the group in a variety of styles.They are currently holding down a weekly residency at Justin's Restaurant in Albany every Thursday from 9-12.

The Adrian Cohen Trio has just released their first recording "Standardized", a collection of jazz standards that serve as a documentation of the trio in 2002. The CD Release gig will be held at the WAMC Performing Arts Center on Thursday, September 18th at 7:30 pm, and will feature the new Adrian Cohen Quintet in the 2nd half of the program.

Pete Sweeney (percussion)



Pete Sweeney has been a full-time professional musician since 1983. He has studied with Dave Calarco and the great Joe Morello for 7 years. He has recorded and performed with many great musicians in the rock, blues, and jazz idioms. Some of his performance credits are:

In addition to performing, Pete Sweeney is also an active author and educator. He teaches privately in the Capital Region and in Western Massachusetts, and has also been a permanent faculty member at the prestigious National Guitar Workshop for the last 10 years. He has written four highly acclaimed instructional books for Alfred publishing, produced a DVD for the workshop, and is currently working on a 2nd DVD as well as a three part book series that will debut at the Winter NAMM show 2004.

Mike DelPrete (Del-Pret-ee) (bass)

Mike DelPrete is a 23 year old bassist originally from Connecticut. After taking electric bass lessons and playing in many bands throughout high school, he attended Skidmore College and studied the double bass there with local bassist Rich Syracuse. While at Skidmore, Mike had many valuable musical experiences including the opportunity to perform a concert with jazz legend Dave Brubeck when he came to the college for a master class and concert. During his senior year, mike's college jazz trio won the "Outstanding Group Performance" student music award from Downbeat Magazine.

After graduating in May 2002, Mike began performing with musicians and bands in Albany, Great Barrington and New York City including John Nazarenko, The Darren Lyons Group, Mike Schiffer/Leo Russo, and Ed Mann. DelPrete first performed with Adrian Cohen in Capital Repertory Theatre's summer 2002 production of "Song of Singapore" and at the end of the run was asked to join the trio.
